Clarence Williams and the Negro Leagues

From Calobe Jackson, Jr, March 29, 2003
Clarence Williams will be honored at the Negro League Commemorative Night, June 26th at Riverside Stadium. Clarence is the son of William Williams of William Street. William Williams was Harrisburg's first black policeman and a great friend of William Verbeke. Some say William Street was named for William Williams, others that Verbeke named streets for his children, i.e., Marion, Margaret and William. Margaret is now called Fourth Street, Marion and William remain.

I will give a special presentation on Clarence Williams at the Negro League Convention on June 27th. One hundred years ago he played in the first Negro World Series. One of these games was at Island Park and featured the great Rube Foster.
