Zion Primitive Baptist Church

From Harryette Mullen, July 20, 2003
Thanks for providing this historical information. I found your site while searching for any mention of my great-grandfather, Walker Tolliver, pastor of Zion Primitive Baptist Church between 1900-30. His wife, Hattie, was the fourteenth child of Hannah and Uriah Wise of Chambersburg. Their children were Joseph, Beatrice, and my grandmother Harryette. She is their last surviving child.

My grandmother married Lowell P. Mitchell, pastor of Zion Baptist Church between 1930-40, and pastor of Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas between the 1940s-60s. She retired after working many years in the Social Security Administration. My mother Avis Mullen, a gifted educator, was also born in Harrisburg. My grandmother vividly remembers William and Eliza Williams, who were important elders of her father's church.
