Historical Marker for A. Dennee Bibb

From Calobe Jackson, Jr., December 19, 2003
Sheila, Marian and George, below is some information that I share with you. Perhaps if we knew about Bibb and others, our childhood experiences in Harrisburg would have been different. Marian, your relative, Mr. Warrick was a student at Dickinson Law School with Bibb. A. Dennee Bibb is related to the Layton and Marshall families of Harrisburg. Marty Layton lived on Grand Street, achieved a PhD. and retired from the Harrisburg School District. You may also remember Bibb's cousin, Bud Marshall who had a drug store at Cowden and Boas streets and later at 6th and Broad Streets.

[Below is confirmation of] a nomination for A. Dennee Bibb. Nate Waters and I co-sponsored this nomination. Nathan Waters, Esq., is now a member of the Trustee Board of Lincoln University. Nate and I often discussed the fact that Bibb wrote Lincoln's Alma Mater song circa 1911. Nate is also on the board at Dickinson Law School, that Bibb attended in 1922. Since this year is the 150th anniversary of Lincoln University, we thought it fitting to do this. We have support from the Lincoln Alumni around the world and the class of 1952 will pay any expenses incurred.

I have also received confirmation of the receipt for the nomination of the Harrisburg Giants Baseball team of the 1920's for an historical marker.

Calobe

This is to acknowledge that your nomination for a state historical marker for Alexander Dennee Bibb has been received by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and is on file.

Marker nominations will be accepted through December 15. In late winter/early spring 2004, the independent panel of experts will meet to evaluate nominations and present the approved ones to the Commissioners for ratification, usually at their March meeting. You will receive a letter at that time advising you of the panel's evaluation.

Many thanks for your interest in the historical marker program.
