First African American Cookbook

From Calobe Jackson, Jr., June 6, 2004

The Patriot-News, last Wednesday, had an article on Abby Fisher who published a cookbook in 1881. It is thought to be the first cookbook published by an African American. However I hear from the grapevine that Bishop Allen's wife may have written one earlier. Perhaps some of Afrolumens readers can comment on this.

Read about the Abby Fisher cookbook here, Information from the Library of Congress. It also notes that the first recognized cook book from an African American woman was published by Malinda Russell in 1866. You can access and download Malinda Russell's cookbook at this site: https://malindarussell.com/free-pdf-of-malinda-russells-1866-cookbook/
