5th Massachusetts Colored Cavalry

From Calobe Jackson, Jr., January 17, 2005

George, I think there are at lest two members of the 5th Massachusetts buried in Lincoln Cemetery. The 5th gained fame as the chosen guard for President Lincoln when he visited Richmond after its fall. I recall seeing a painting depicting this event.
A reunion of the 5th, 54th and 55th was held in Boston, circa 1880. A Carlisle member was on the reunion committee.

Editor's note:  Calobe is responding to our feature regarding the men from Harrisburg who had ties to the 5th Massachusetts Colored Cavalry regiment.  Read it by clicking here.
