Headstones on Blue Mountain

From John Lenahan, March 15, 2006

Your site is great. I did not know about it until I found it thru Google. I enjoy tracking down and visiting sites pertaining to The Underground Railroad, Douglass, Brown etc. Your site mentions two graves on the Blue Mountain north of Linglestown. Google has also revealed a few sentences about these graves in Dauphin Co. Historical Society and West Hanover Historical Society accounts. I have seen a photo of these headstones, taken about 1956, which suggests that they were located on the old route of the Appalachian Trail. The '34 edition of the Appalachian Trail Guidebook makes no mention of the headstones. I've recently spent a few afternoons walking the old trail above Linglestown and I found foundations and other artifacts but not the headstones. There has, of course, been development of roads and homes up there in the last 50 years. Do you know were the headstones are?  If so, could you give me directions? I would appreciate any help you could provide.

Also, you may already know about this but there is a new book out The Perfect Steel Trap: Harpers Ferry 1859, by Bob O'Connor. I don't have it yet but it looks good.
Thanks

John Lenahan

Editor's note:  The grave headstones have been written about in the Patriot-News and in several local history accounts, and have even been mentioned by Underground Railroad researcher Charles Blockson, yet I have never visited them.  Perhaps one of our readers can supply directions to find these headstones.
