Books on Lincoln Cemetery

From Calobe Jackson, Jr., 20 January 2007

Hello,

The Pennsylvania State Library has acquired two books on the history of Lincoln Cemetery (dedicated Nov 20, 1877). Raymond Schott, volunteer librarian at State Library, had the two volumes of information that we acquired, bound and made available for research. These books do not circulate.

The books are located in the Genealogy section of the State Library.
Lincoln Cemetery (2002) 929.374831 cm 1008
Lincoln Cemetery Susquehanna Township (2003) 929.347831 cm 1009

Ray found deeds from: 1866, 1876, 1877 Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and 1833, 1873, 1877 Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania.
He included copies of original deeds as well as typed copies of original deeds. Typing was done by a person experienced in reading old scripted legal papers. These books should be of value to persons seeking information about African Americans in greater Harrisburg. The second book has much more detail than the first.

Best Regards, Calobe

George Nagle, Afrolumens Project Editor, notes "The pre 1876 deeds are of particular interest as they may support the claim of an African American cemetery being in that spot prior to the 1877 dedication."
