Former Spouse of Thurgood Marshall

From Ed Dornell, 4 July 2007

A number of years ago I read a biography of Thurgood Marshall.  The book depicted a letter from Marshall to Roy Wilkens dated sometime in the early 1940s.  In this letter, Marshall indicated that he was in need of a rest after several court battles in the south, where he was under constant threat.  He advised that if needed, he could be found at the home of his then brother-in-law, Charles Jones, at 408 Ridge Street, Steelton, PA. The biography revealed that Marshal's first wife, who had died earlier, was from Steelton.

Unfortunately I don't remember the exact title of the book or who the author was. I don't recall it mentioning the name of his former spouse. Does any one know her name and if she attended school in Steelton?

Editor's note: Our online 1920 census of Steelton's African American community shows a man named Charles H. Jones, age 27, boarding with Henry and Bessie Williams at 338 Lincoln Street.
