Edward Thompson was an anti-slavery activist. One of two persons who paid
the legal fees of Charles C. Rawn in the August 1850 fugitive slave case--the
other was William M. "Pap" Jones--Thompson and another Harrisburg African
American, James A. Williams, also brought charges of kidnapping against
constables Solomon Snyder and John Sanders, and again hired Rawn, in a November
1850 case involving fugitives who were taken directly to Baltimore instead of
before Commissioner McAllister for a hearing.
