May, a likely smart Negroe Fellow, named Joseph, about 18 or 20 Years of Age, something better than 5 Feet high, a French Negroe, speaks very broken English: had on, or took with him, two new Tow Shirts, and a Check Shirt, two new Pair of Tow Trowsers, two Pair of old striped Ticken Drawers, a new blue and white spotted Silk Handkerchief, a light coloured Cloth Coat, with Metal Buttons, an old yellow Thickset Jacket, lined with red, and old Fur hatt. Whoever takes up the said Negroe, and secures him, so that his Master may have him again, shall have Thirty Shillings Reward, and reasonable Charges, paid by JOSEPH HAINS.

Whoever takes up said negroe, and secures him in any goal, so that his master may get him again, shall have the above reward, and reasonable charges if brought home, paid by ANDREW LOWREY.
N.B. Masters of vessels and others are forbid to harbour or carry off said Negroe, at their peril. October 8, 1794.
After eleven months gone, Lowrey ran another advertisement, increasing the reward and adding additional details about Joe:
Forty Dollars Reward. RAN AWAY from the subscriber, living Oxford township, Chester county, state of Pennsylvania, the beginning of last October, a Negro MAN, named JOE, about 24 years of age, near 6 feet high, of a tawney colour, much given to drink, playing on the fiddle, dancing and frolicking, and his disposition is such, that it is expected he will continue so to do: it is thought unnecessary to describe his cloathing, being so long gone, it is supposed he has exchanged them with some of his associates; he has a large scar on his head, a little above his forehead, also a large scar on one of his feet, at the root of the great toe. Said fellow has a brother, named Abel Gibbens, who has worked in and about Philadelphia for some years, who is a freeman. I intended to set said slave free at a reasonable period, and still mean the same, in case he returns, or is brought to me. The above reward will be given to any person securing said fellow in any gaol, so that I get him again, and reasonable charges if brought home. ANDREW LOWREY. August 24, 1795.
