    Notes  Taxed in 1772-1783 and again in 1795-1804 for one Negro slave.  In the years 1779 and 1783 she was taxed for two Negro slaves.  The single slave in 1804 was listed as "an invalid."  The value of the two slaves in 1779 was �100 each.  Values assessed for the slaves were:  1781, �20; 1783, �45; 1795, �15; 1799, $60 for each of the two, and in 1804, $50.

    Notes  Taxed in 1792-1799 for one Negro slave.  That slave was valued at 3 in 1792, �10 in 1794, �30 in 1796, and �10 in 1798 and 1799.  A slave for which Sterrett was taxed in 1789 and again in 1802 was "struck off at appeal" and "taxed to Beale & Sterrett at the forge in Milford."  That valuation was �45 in 1789.

    Notes  Taxed for one Negro slave in 1775-1778, for three Negro slaves in 1779-1782, and for two Negro slaves in 1783-1787.  His widow was taxed for two slaves from 1788-1790.  The three slaves in 1779 were valued at �600, and in 1781 at �240.  Two slaves, held by Stewart in 1783, were valued at �100.  By 1787 their value had dropped to �50.  Historian A. L. Guss, writing in the source below, notes that the single slave owned by George Stewart "is the ancestor of Robert Johnson, colored, now living in Beale."
