URR NEWS: TUBMAN STUDY MEETING IN WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, MAY 8, 2002 | URR SUMMER WORKSHOPS IN LANCASTER AND YORK COUNTIES, PENNSYLVANIA, JUNE AND JULY 2003

PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT HARRIET TUBMAN STUDY

The National Park Service will hold a public meeting concerning its study of sites associated with Harriet Tubman. The public is invited to participate in discussion of places associated with Tubman and of ideas how Tubman might be commemorated. There will be a meeting in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, May 8, 2003, 6:00 8 PM, in the City Council Chambers, Louis L. Redding City/County Building, 800 French Street. URR SUMMER WORKSHOPS FOR K-12 TEACHERS IN LANCASTER AND YORK COUNTIES, PENNSYLVANIA, JUNE AND JULY, 2003

Workshop participants will discuss new scholarship on the Underground Railroad, examine relevant new media resources, develop strategies for classroom implementation of primary sources into effective and engaging lesson plans, and develop grade-appropriate units of study. Web resources, hands-on activities of the history of the Underground Railroad in Lancaster County, field trips, and a video conference with staff at the Buxton Historic Site and Museum in Ontario, Canada will be included. PA Department of Education accepts these 3.0 graduate credit workshops for Act 48 permanent certification and for the master's equivalency certificates.
