BLACK HISTORY IN PENNSYLVANIA: CONFERENCE AT INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA, APRIL 15-17, 2004

This year's annual Black History in Pennsylvania Conference, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, and held at Indiana University, includes a session on "Pennsylvania and the Network to Freedom" moderated by Margaret Jerrido, with panelists Patricia Wilson Aden, Chris Catalfamo, John Ford and Tara Morrison. At the close of the conference, there will be an historical market dedication for a "Fugitive Slave Rescue" in 1858 at Blairsville. For information on registration, see:

KENNETT SQUARE [PENNSYLVANIA] UNDERGROUND RAILROAD CENTER TOURS

The Kennett Square Underground Railroad Center in Kennett Square, Chester County, Pennsylvania, will reopen for summer 2004 on May 1st. The Center will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, 1-3, and they will have Heritage Tours on the third Sunday of June, July, and August, plus Mushroom Festival Sunday, September 12. There is a fee for the tours (but not for visiting the center). Those interested in taking the Heritage Tour should contact the Underground Railroad Center for times, fees and registration information:

CHADDS FORD [PENNSYLVANIA] HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Chadds Ford Historical Society in Delaware County, Pennsylvania (near the Brandywine Battlefield), is offering a series of Tuesday night lectures in April. On April 20, at 7:30 P.M. Christopher Densmore, Friends Historical Library, will present a talk on the Underground Railroad.
