BUXTON (ONTARIO) CONFERENCE, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2005
The Buxton National Historic Site & Museum hosts the 8th Annual U.S./Canadian History and Genealogy Conference, Friday September 2, 2005, at the North Buxton Community Church, North Buxton, Ontario. The program include presentations by authors Marie Carter (Stepping Back in Time: The Trillium Trail in Dresden), Glennette Tilley Turner (The Underground Railroad in Illinois) and Betty DeRamus (Forbidden Fruit), a panel discussion with Tony Burroughs and Karolyn Smardz-Fost on US and Canadian fugitive slave cases. Buxton Homecoming events continue on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Cost of Registration is $40 Canadian or $33 US (including lunch) to be determined in advance if payment is received by August 16th. After that date the cost will be $50 Canadian and $42 US. Because of the seating limitation, registrations will be taken on a "first come" basis. PHILADELPHIA: SECRETS OF THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, CIVIL WAR AND UNDERGROUND RAILROAD MUSEUM OF PHILADELPHIA, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2005
Pennsylvania Commonwealth Speaker Dr. James A. Delle discusses how archaeology can be used to find evidence of the Underground Railroad through an examination of two sites: the Parvin Homestead in Berks County, and the Thaddeus Stevens House in Lancaster County, at the Civil War and Underground Railroad Museum of Philadelphia, 1805 Pine Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19103, on Saturday, September 10, 2005, at 2 pm.

Beginning Saturday, September 10, 2005, and continuing the second Saturday of each month, the Civil War and Underground Railroad Museum of Philadelphia is having a "2nd Saturday Story Hour" at 11 am, featuring living history storytellers, including Harriet Tubman, Henry "Box" Brown, Lucretia Mott, William Still and figures from the Civil War. NEW JERSEY UNDERGROUND RAILROAD GATHERING, TRENTON, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2005
The National Park Service and the New Jersey Historical Commission, Department of State, are sponsoring a meeting of individuals interested in New Jersey's Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad Gathering provides an opportunity for networking, sharing information, and learning about New Jersey's Underground Railroad, its links to neighboring states and the National Park Service's National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, 2005, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the War Memorial, Trenton, New Jersey
The program includes Giles R. Wright, New Jersey Historical Commission, "The Underground Railroad in New Jersey," Millicent Sparks giving a living history performance, "Harriet Tubman Chautauqua," Sheri Jackson, National Park Service, "The National Underground Railroad to Freedom," a discussion of "Frequently Asked Questions about the Underground Railroad" and a panel about four New Jersey Underground Railroad sites with Laura Aldrich, Bethel AME Church, Greenwich, Ramona Chainey, Macedonia AME Church, Camden, Elaine Edwards, Mt.
