Thomas McCreary

From Milt Diggins, June 16, 2006

Your website is a valuable resource and I wanted to introduce myself and establish contact with you because of your knowledge of Thomas McCreary. I am Milt Diggins, a retired history teacher and the editor of the Cecil County Historical Journal, a publication of the Cecil County Historical Society.  I started gathering information on McCreary several years ago when I first came across a reference to him and just recently increased the level of research in hopes of eventually writing articles and a book on McCreary and possibly other slave catchers / kidnappers operating along the Mason-Dixon line, and looking at the tensions between Maryland and Pennsylvania over the issue. After reviewing the list of sources you had on the Rachel Parker case and David Smith had on the attempted capture of McCreary, I would appreciate knowing of any additional resources you would recommend to me on the subject. Chris Densmore recently visited our historical society, and I was able to share some local material and discuss McCreary with him. We have copies of the Cecil Whig and Cecil Democrat with references to Thomas McCreary that provide a south-of-the-line perspective.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer, and let me know if I might be of assistance to you in your McCreary research, or any related research from the northeast corner of Maryland.
